How to choose hair foil
When choosing hair foil, four things matter most: thickness, format (pre-cut sheets or a roll), surface and the cost per service. For everyday salon work, many colourists prefer medium-thickness, embossed foil in pre-cut sheets: it is quick to grab, holds its fold, and a full head of highlights costs about €0.92–€1.54 in foil.
What thickness of foil should I choose?
Thinner foil is lighter and more pliable but tears more easily; thicker foil holds its shape and the weight of the product better but is stiffer to fold.
A medium thickness such as 15 microns is a common middle ground: easy to fold around a strand and firm once folded.
Pre-cut sheets, a roll or paper?
Pre-cut pop-up sheets save the measuring, tearing and cutting a roll needs, and every sheet is the same size. A roll lets you cut any length. Paper is lighter and lets you see the product, which some colourists prefer for soft blends.

Smooth or embossed foil?
An embossed surface grips the strand, which makes the colour product easier to spread evenly and helps the folded foil stay in place during the service.
